Which Comparative degree should I use? - er", "est" more or most
The Comparative Degree is used to compare the qualities of two persons or things. It denotes the existence of a higher degree of the quality than the positive and is normally used when two things are compared.
Either
er or
more is used to compare e.g. smaller, smaller Or, courageous, more courageous. `Than’ is normally added along with comparative degree of adjectives.
E.g. This building is taller than that one. Or, The red apples are sweeter than the green ones.
Sometimes,
as.....as is also used to compare two entities. E.g. Parvati does not dance as gracefully as Mohini. Or, This book is as thick as that one.
Superlative degreeWhen the highest quality is indicated, est and most are used. e.g. This is the smallest building in the vicinity. Or, Gone with the Wind is the most interesting book I have ever read.
The Superlative Degree is used when more than two nouns or things are compared. It is imperative that the definite article `the’ is used before the superlative degree.
