Winning Deal: Essar Lands $54 Million Contract With Aramco


Essar Projects has secured a $54 million contract with Saudi based Aramco. Essar Projects is a hydrocarbon SBU of Essar Projects which is a global EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contractor. Saudi Aramco is the national petroleum and natural gas company in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The EPC contract involves an upgradation of a crude stabilisation unit at the Abqaiq Plant in Shaybah owned by Aramco.

The $54 million EPC project entails an upgradation of a crude stabilisation unit at Aramco's Abqaiq plant. Shaybah is one of the biggest oilfields across the world. This work entails engineering as well as procurement and construction of a crude tank along with replacement of crude pumps and associated civil, electrical, piping and instrumentation facilities. The project will be completed in a duration of 29 months.

Essar also has 5 other projects in hand in this region for the hydrocarbon sector . As far as the project is concerned, Amit Gupta the CEO of this company has been quoted by media agencies as saying “This contract is a reflection of our capability to undertake global projects from reputed clients in this region. We will leverage the capabilities gained to enhance our foot print in other Middle East countries.” Essar Projects has extensive experience in refinery projects with previous successes such as a world-scale refinery at Vadinar.

The Vadinar refinery had an initial capacity of 10 MMTPA that gradually expanded into 14 MMTPA and 20 MMTPA. This was also important for the putting together the supporting infrastructure and facilities that included SBM for crude unloading as well as product jetty for refinery product export along with a tank farm with total tankage of 3 million cubic metres for crude, products and intermediate as well as 77 MW of captive power plant.
