Xiaomi Works Its Magic In China: Chinese Apple Scores
A report released by research firm Canalys has indicated that China's Apple Xiaomi has sold 15 million smartphones in China in the second quarter. This is more than a 3 fold surge since an earlier year. Canalys has indicated that Samsung has failed to defeat Xiaomi in China.
Samsung's smartphone sales in China fell to 13.2 million units from 15.5 million a year earlier. Xiaomi sells nearly all its smartphones in mainland China and Canalys has indicated that it us currently the winner in what is widely considered to be the largest smartphone maker across the world for this period.
While Xiaomi sold 1.5 crore smartphones in China for Q2 during 2014, Samsung sold only 1.32 crore phones. Xiaomi has taken the lead in the Chinese market within a span of just 3 years. The Chinese Apple holds a 14% market share in the world's largest cellphone market. Samsung is also facing competition from Samsung which is sailing right behind with sales of 1.3 crore phones and only a 12% market share in China.
Low cost handsets have amazing specifications and Xiaomi will continue to lead because of its durable and affordable products. Price sensitivity is nothing new as value for money has always been an overriding concern for the average buyer. The elite look for other considerations than price. Targeting the maintream market means abiding by the golden rule of giving the biggest bang for the customer's bucks. In our country Xiaomi launched products such as the Mi3 phone this year.
This Chinese handset maker waided into stormy waters with confidence and aplomb. Their ambitious goals have now reached fruition with Samsung lagging far behind as Xiaomi races ahead to become the top selling smartphone in China. Samsung had been the market leader in China for more than 2 years before Xiaomi outraced it. Local brands such as Lenovo and Huawei are also gearing up for the big fight. Smartphones have become a necessity rather than a luxury owing to advances in technology. Lenovo is only 2 million units behind Samsung.
Market research firm Strategy Analytics also predicted bright prospects for the Chinese Apple. Its report indicated that Xiaomi became the world's fifth largest smartphone vendor for the first time during the Q2 period. It has surpassed LG Electronics. Canalys has indicated that nearly 4 in 10 smartphones sold in China for the second quarter were manufactured by Xiaomi. Jingwen Wang who is an analyst with this research group has indicated that using its own mobile software has given Xiaomi an edge over all its competitors.
Other Chinese firms fared well too Only Samsung and Apple Inc were the non-Chinese vendors that made it to the top 10 smartphone brands this year in China. Apple has managed sales of about 6.8 million iPhones in the second quarter. This is up from 58% last year. Apple now faces stiff competition from China's Apple. So far, Xiaomi is proving to be even better than the real thing in China.
