    - Bearing: It is a machine element which constraints relative motion to desired motion. It reduces friction between moving parts.

    - Bearing is a supporting element. Bearings ensure free rotation of shaft and axle with less friction. Rolling and sliding contact bearings are classified based on nature of relative motion between contacting surfaces.

    The different types of machine elements are:

    1) Holding type elements: Keys, nuts and bolts, cotters and rivets are different holding elements.

    2) Supporting type elements: Axles, bearings, brackets, and frame are different supporting elements.

    3) Power transmitting elements: Shafts, pulleys and belts, sprockets and chains, gears are different power transmitting elements.
