Horn OK Please is Not OK

Horn OK Please is Not OK

Many of the people that have been on a road trip must have seen the iconic message 'Horn OK Please’ written on the rear bumper. This phrase is ordered to go off trucks in Maharashtra. Mahesh Zagade, the State transport commissioner issued a notice banning the catchphrase Horn Ok Please on commercial vehicles, such as tempos and trucks, across Maharashtra. The reason behind the ban is believed to be the problem of noise pollution. It was stated that the phrase prompts drivers to honk unnecessarily. Do you support the ban? Let us discuss on the topic, Horn OK Please is Not OK

Yes

- Horn Ok, Please is often reckoned as an exhortation to honk. Many people consider it as a welcome catchphrase and intentionally horn before moving ahead of the truck.

- People fail to understand the underlying message behind the catchphrase. Instead of using Horn Ok, Please the truck owners can showcase other simple and easy to understand messages.

- It is about changing the driving culture, and there is nothing wrong in banning a statement that does not serve its purpose.

- The level of noise pollution is increasing day by day and it has become really important to take all the measures that can prove noteworthy in controlling the same.

No

- It is a bizarre rule and it is not clear how the authorities will implement it for commercial vehicles and trucks coming from other states.

- The move may or may not control noise pollution, but it will certainly hurt the freedom of truck drivers to have their own favorite signs.

- It is hilarious to see the authorities take this move as a simple statement like Horn OK, Please hardly contributes in noise pollution.

- The message of the catchphrase is clear. It indicates that whenever a driver in another vehicle following truck needs side-space to overtake, he should honk. There is nothing wrong in the message.

- The interpretation of any picture, statement or art differs from person to person. So, the authorities can really not interpret what the drivers think of the phrase.

- Following the trend, the government may take another step and remove the phrase "Buri Nazar Wale Tera Muh Kala" stating it is a phrase prompting racism.

Conclusion

The basic motive behind banning the phrase is to reduce the noise pollution and improve the driving culture. But can someone explain how banning a phrase can improve driving culture. Instead of wasting time on such moves, the authorities should find some real solution to the problem. They should understand that the noise pollution is caused by various factors like industrialization, poor urban planning, social events, and many more. In order to deal with the noise pollution there are many other aspects of the problem to be dealt with.

  • As far as my views are concerned about the topic ,I think horn ok please is please..it doesn't make any sense with the noise pollution ,but it is an advice for the driver's safety i.e, that he made a successful overtake. Also it individually depends upon the mentality of the people that how they consider this phrase and I think a concerned citizen will always look for his own safety rather than thinking of the noise pollution..so i think the phrase in no ways supports the noise pollution. Whereas talking about the gov. If they really are concerned about the noise pollu. Why dont they avoid holding long rallies, industrial problems and etc. The gov. should be more practical with these factors and unemployment, corruption, bribery, educational facilities, hospital facilities, infrastructure, laws and order rather than thinking about the innocent phrase,"HORN OK PLEASE".

  • There are lot of things which is written but no one is there to follow like as traffic rule in cities it is followed by some of people but what happened to the village society !!!!
and moreover all have good mentality ,for an example if suppose one truck is 200 m far away from the another one , then it is obeys that he is not going to press horn but yes if that come near and want to overtake then he automatically press the horn .so we can understand the thing that driver don't goes on the written warning .all have some fashion like if a person have sports car then he used to design his car by painting in the same way the driver of truck used to do ..so what i thought that it's not creating sound pollution .if government really want to control the sound pollution then used in there field like industrial area don't always choose the shabby one okz

  • Horn OK Please is just a phrase that has a meaning in the traffic language. Every trained driver understands the meaning of the phrase. It is self-explanatory to horn if the vehicle wants to get ahead of a truck and other carriage heavy vehicles. This phrase has no big ill-impact so long.

If the Government is so much concerned for the noise pollution, it should ideally take steps to control the noise from industrial set-ups. vehicular noise undoubtedly contributes to the noise pollution to a good extent. To control that, we need to create ideas to curb the vehicular noise by smooth traffic flow.

If we can make the traffic toply smoothly, the efficiency ofthe road traffic will increase and the noise pollution due to horns would decrease considerably. Instead, such a move like banning the phrase would be a bit childish. Drivers are not blowing horns just after reading the phrase behind the vehicles. they are blowing horns just to make their way ahead in highly congested roads.

Thus, the traffic regulations and the roads need modification, rather than banning the phrase like 'Horn OK Please'.
