The government should stop funding IIT's and IIM's and, instead divert the funds to primary education.

Primary education is losing its importance in the time of growing IIT’s and IIM’s and the efforts made towards enlightening individuals with primary education are hampered by fewer funds. Can a student go to IIT’s and IIM’s without proper primary education?

For-
- Primary education is compulsory for a person to build his/her personality but due to the under developed nature of India, not every individual receives primary education.
- Government should make a conscious effort to make more people literate rather than concentrating their sum on a small and confined population.
- Students from IIT’s and IIM’s are migrating from India to other countries for better jobs leaving a sour taste in everyone’s mind.
- Illiterate people in India are incapable of meeting the expenses of the primary schools let alone IIT’s and IIM’s. So, government should divert the funds on educating them with the primary education rather than giving it to IIT’s and IIM’s.
- Students going to IIT’s and IIM’s are self capable of paying the expenses that are required for these colleges.
- Compulsory primary education is necessary for the overall growth of the country.

Against-
- India being a developing nation needs these institutes to polish the young talent to perform on the international front.
- Students’ migrating from these institutes results in the increase of our economy while connecting us globally.
- The growth of young talent in India requires better education and reorganization as the talent pool is vast and ever growing in India.
- IIT’s and IIM’s produce brilliant minds that can help in shaping India democratically and make it a better democratic country.
- Students are coming to these institutes from other countries thus generating revenue for India.
- It is the students of IIM, IIT and other big institues who help in creating employment opportunities in India.

Primary education is compulsory and it is not to be mixed with IIT’s and IIM’s as they are restricted to a very small area. IIT’s and IIM’s can be self-financed by the students but primary education should not be neglected and funds should be used to literate people from the grass-root level.

  • From my point of view, the policy makers need to put lots of thinking into education sector of India. at one hand government is opening IITs and IIMs on a fast track mode simultaneously, elementary and secondary education is also getting due emphasis. More and more number of primary school infrastructures are being created in the villages and also being promoted to secondary schools. I know some of the villages Rajsthan where there are more than two schools and also private schools running. this results into sharing of resources (govt.) unwisely consequently this lead to poor performance by teachers and students.
The point is government should first do an estimation of requirements, consolidate the existing infrastructure and map the geographic area which needs to be covered by one school be it primary or secondary. This would lead to more concerted effort from teachers as well.
Secondly, the students studying in IIMs and IITs are capable enough to self finance the study or take educational loans and hence government should ideally focus on elementary and secondary education.

  • From my point of view government should focus more on primary education as it is the first step where child gets the basic knowledge and which helps in grooming the personality.
Instead of flooding money in IITs and IIMs government should take steps in providing Primary education to more and more people as these brillant mind of IITs and IIMs are self capable of paying their college expenses and moreover they have professional lecturers to guide them and get placed in a good company. And if the primary education would be good, they will get entry in big institutes as IITs and IIMs also demand a student whose concepts are clear and ready to face challenges in future.

  • Hii Friends,

I think diverting the funds from IITs and IIM's will not make much of the difference because we are two different things. Primary education and Higher Education.
The spending in primary education should be increased but not on the cost of higher education.
Even with the amount that we are spending is actually very less when we compared to other nations. R&D amounts to 403 Billions dollar in America ours 36.1 Billions. I think more money should be allocated to IIT's and IIM's to increase the R & D because it is only when we spend in research we can able to find new solutions and always get dependent on other countries for there help. It will open a new sources of income also.
There is a need to upgrade the current facilities (Regional Colleges) and not for formulation of entirely new IIT's or IIM's. This will save a lot money also.

I strongly support to increase the amount by many folds that is allocated to Primary education also, because the current facilities provided their are pathetic to say the least. It require an up-gradation. We should make them better the private schools, so that students from every folk of life(Rich and poor) be able to be together and even charge from more privileged one's to increase the funding's.

  • I THINK GOVN SHOULD FUND MONEY TO IIM'S AND IIT'S
reason; -iit's & iim's provide world class teaching, consist of highly trained & qualified professors, state-of -art instruments & lab.
many iit's & iim's rank in top position in global level..
they nurture young talents & hone them. make them competent for global requirements...if india stops funding for iit & iim india will not develop.
2;-a country cant grow without human resourses. in india iit's & iim's have nurtured many jewels as it was percepted during their establishment...
3;-- 'MAKE IN INDIA' -cant be possible without talented & daft engineers and prudent managers ..
4; every year govn spends huge money for education purposes . govn should take realistic & judicious decisions & shouldn't devalue the importance of primary education, the backbone of indian eduacation system..
