Should NDA allow Congress to become the main opposition party in Parliament?

As a rule, if a party cannot muster 10% of the total 543 seats in Lok Sabha, it cannot be allowed to form the opposition party in the Parliament. And it is the same case with Parliament this season. It will not be able to gather 10% of the total 543 seats. In such a scenario, what should NDA do? Should it allow Congress to form the opposition in the Parliament?

Yes

• The real democratic government has a strong opposition that can come up with is views on the main party’s programmers and policies. For the democracy, NDA should agree to that.

• Assigning the role of official opposition will only allow the working to be more transparent and regular. It would lead the working stay away from the partisan atmosphere.

• Congress is still the second largest political party of India and if it is denied the role of opposition it will result in the crisis of legislative legitimacy.

• The ruling party needs to consult the opposition party before making any key decisions. It is very much important for the properly institutionalized process.

• NDA doesn’t have a majority in Lok Sabha. So , it will be better to create a better conducive environment for smooth functioning of Parliament.

No

• Congress failed to create any impression on people of India and cannot even get the required percentage on their own. They don’t deserve any leniency.

• If Congress is allowed to become the official opposition it will again create roadblocks for the working government and its policies.

• Why should the rules be changed for Congress that has failed to make any substantial progress in its last tenure? Rules cannot be changed as per the conditions.

• The other two parties AIADMK and Trinamool Congress also have 37 and 34 seats respectively, close to the Congress seats. So why should Congress get the advantage over them?

• If Congress is made the official opposition in Parliament, it will encourage smaller political groups resulting into a two-party system.

Conclusion

Rules are rules, and they should not be broken. No one can deny the importance of having some guidelines set to become the opposition party in the parliament. The guidelines were set for the better functioning of the parliament and the country. So, in any case the rules should not be changed for Congress. There is no scope of leniency in the matter.

  • what i think is yes nda should allow congress to be in opposition as looking at them continuously in the opposition would remind nda what not to do or else will be in same position next time.
though things should go according to rule and yes tmc and aidmk wont be bad oppositions ,but as news flow aidmk is in urge to join nda and mamta banerjee is not a lady who can represent whole country ,she is good for wb only that to she supports only a religion of a region.

  • By far, Congress has lost its reputation across the country. With its vague decisions in the lead role of the party, the instability within the party has been portrayed out in a very bad manner. Within such a scenario, the party is definitely facing unhealthy relations with its allies.

There are certain rules to form the opposition in the parliament, and Congress is no special to get any extra leverage for the same. A strong opposition is definitely important for the efficient governance of the country, as there needs to be a check for the ruling party before getting the bills passed to form the laws. Without the opposition, the nation may suffer with lack of views and counter-opinions.

Again, on analysing the opposition role, the party in itself should be confident enough to reach a single decision. With such an agitation within the party, forming the NDA as opposition will again not resolve the requirements of the opposition with respect to the unity in their decisions. With vivid decisions in to the house of the parliament, this diversity covered under the carpet of unity wouldn’t resolve the essential requirements of the opposition.
