Explain briefly some of the tasks performed by the BIOS?

The BIOS performs the following tasks:

- Loads device drivers and interrupt handlers: As soon as the computer is powered on the BIOS loads the device drivers which are used to identify the devices connected to the computer. Also the BIOS loads the interrupt handlers which translates the hardware actions of the computer so that they can be recognized by the Operating System.

- Power management and register initialization: As soon as the BIOS loads the CMOS it then sends a signal to the BIOS of the video card for initialization. Once that is done it checks the systems last known state.
