Explain how is the CMOS and ACPI related to the BIOS?
Both the CMOS and the ACPI are related to the BIOS in the following ways:
- The CMOS or also known as complementary metal oxide semiconductor is a chip that is placed on the motherboard. The CMOS may be user replaceable in old motherboards.
- The CMOS is used to store the settings of the BIOS of a computer. The BIOS stores the settings required for the computer to function once it is powered on.
- The ACPI or the advanced configuration and power interface is an industry standard to define configuration information of computers and the various power management features.
- The ACPI defines different power management features which allows the computer to enter states such as hibernation, sleep etc.
