Mention the known types of viruses that target the BIOS?

At the moment there are around 4 known viruses which target the BIOS of a host system, they are as follows:

- CIH: This was considered to be the first virus targeting the BIOS. This virus used to flash the BIOS present in the memory rendering the targeted PC inoperable.

- Black Hat 2006: This virus was primarily used for demonstration purposes. A user was able to get higher privileges by the use of malicious procedures.

- Persistent BIOS infection: Even this BIOS virus was meant for demonstration processes. It showed as to how malicious code that was written during the decompression of the BIOS can give the user a good control of the HOST system without it booting up as well.

- Mebromi: The mebromi is considered to be a trojan worm . It specifically targeted systems that had BIOS manufactured by Award BIOs, Microsoft etc.
