What are the shortcomings of using re-flashable BIOS?
Some of the shortcomings and advantages of using such BIOS are as follows:
- The BIOS which are re-flashable are usually stored in the form of EEPROM chips. These can be updated by the user without any hardware skills.
- By doing so the user is able to remove buggy BIOS releases and update his system with the latest stable release of it.
- Although re-flashable BIOS increases the comfort of users it can also be potentially dangerous as an incorrect BIOS flashing may render the entire system useless.
- The BIOS is also susceptible to virus attacks which can again render the system useless.
