What is a GeoTIFF and what is it used for?
GEOTiff stands for Geographic Tagged Image File Format. GeoTIFF in simple words
is a standard image file format for Geographical Information Systems
applications. It is also a public domain metadata standard which allows geo
reference information to be embedded within a TIFF (tagged Image File Format)
file. The additional information’s that are given by GEOTiff are map
projection, co-ordinate systems, datum’s and everything necessary information
to establish the exact spatial reference for the file. It is used for: image
processing.
