Educational requirement for doing Ocean engineering
What is the educational requirement for doing Ocean engineering, as I am still in my XII class and want to choose Ocean engineering as a future prospect?
The educational qualification required to choose this field and become an ocean engineer is as follows:-
You must have at least a bachelor’s degree in Ocean Engineering studies. To study for a degree in this field, you must have passed 10+2 with science subjects (biology, physics and chemistry) and mathematics. If you want to pursue master’s degree in this particular field then you should hold a bachelor’s degree in the respective field.
Ocean Engineering is a branch of engineering focused on the design and development of equipment and techniques for exploring the ocean floor and its resources. It covers various contents such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, measuring strength of materials, electrical circuits and applied math. You will also get a taste of ocean instrumentation and seafloor mapping, underwater acoustics and data analysis, and marine hydrodynamics and water-wave mechanisms. All and all you will also be covering oceanography, marine dredging, port and harbour design, marine geo mechanics and laboratory modelling.
Courses like B.Tech and BE are offered in this engineering branch, running for four years in duration. Besides, appearing in engineering entrance examinations, like IIT-JEE and AIEEE is also required. There are other several entrance examinations conducted by respective states. Though having know-how about geography and environmental studies will be advantageous, but it is not necessary. However, one has to take the GATE to acquire admission in M.Tech program or CSIR NET for admission into research programs. In order to become a certified and qualified ocean engineer, one has to complete his/her studies, failing which he/she cannot apply for jobs in any field of ocean engineering.
